Governor Riley names ASBDC State

Director Special Advisor to Rural

Action Commission

Governor Bob Riley appointed ASBDC State Director, William Campbell, as a Special Advisor to the Alabama Rural Action Commission (ARAC).

The ARAC’s mission is to measurably improve the

quality of life in Alabama’s rural areas by working

with citizens of Alabama and other supportive

parties.

The commission will begin by focusing on improving

health care, education, economic development

and workforce development in rural areas.

It will also serve to provide a framework for aggressive on-going rural enhancement, provide a

regional perspective and stimulate community

engagement in economic development efforts.

The commission divided the state into eight regions,

with certain commission members responsible

for improvement efforts in each.

Former State Senator, Gerald Dial, was named

the Executive Director of the ARAC and Mr. John

Harrison and Mrs. Margaret Bentley will serve as

Co-Chairs of the commission.
