Alabama SBDC to Expand AI Training Through Partnership with OpenAI

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Small Business Development Center (Alabama SBDC) is joining a nationwide effort to help small businesses leverage artificial intelligence through a new partnership between America’s SBDC and OpenAI. America’s SBDC, the national association representing the nation’s 63 SBDC networks, announced the initiative to expand practical AI training for entrepreneurs across the country.

As a member of the America’s SBDC network, Alabama SBDC will have access to new AI training resources, advisor development opportunities, and hands-on educational programming designed to help small business owners use AI to improve productivity, streamline operations, enhance customer service, and support business growth.

The national pilot program will train SBDC advisors through OpenAI Academy and provide workshops to help small business owners apply AI tools to real-world business challenges. The initiative aims to reach at least 1,000 small businesses nationwide during its initial phase.

“Small businesses are increasingly looking for practical ways to incorporate AI into their operations,” said Michael Brooks, State Director of the Alabama SBDC. “Through our connection to America’s SBDC, Alabama entrepreneurs will benefit from trusted guidance, training, and resources that can help them compete more effectively and grow their businesses.”

The Alabama SBDC network serves entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout the state with no-cost, confidential business advising and training. Information about upcoming AI-related workshops and resources will be available at asbdc.org.  Learn more about the agreement between OpenAI and America’s SBDC here.
