NAITA Trade Compliance Roundtable | Protecting What You Make, Sell & Share: EAR, ITAR & CMMC [10/20/2026 3-5PM]

The Alabama International Trade Center and Alabama SBDC are excited to promote this training event in Huntsville with NAITA and Cyber Huntsville:

North Alabama manufacturers, suppliers, and professional firms handle sensitive information – even when their customer is not the federal government. Trade secrets, technical drawings, source code, pricing, customer lists, personal data, and export-controlled technical data can create legal and business risk if leaked, encrypted by ransomware, or sent to the wrong person.

Join the North Alabama International Trade Association (NAITA) and Presenting Sponsor Womble Bond Dickinson for a panel discussion focused on the need for all organizations to secure their restricted information and IP/trade secrets and the various frameworks industry uses, with a focus on CMMC, the recent suspension of Phase II implementation, and how the underlying contract requirements to comply with a NIST framework for CMMC compliance remain in place.

CMMC is the headline because the Department of War paused Phase II third-party assessments in July 2026. That did not pause the duty to protect federal information, and it did not pause Export Control rules! This briefing is for manufacturers, suppliers, and professional firms that hold trade secrets, EAR or ITAR technical data, CUI, or client files, whether or not they hold a DoW contract. Empowered Officials and CMMC Affirming Officials should also attend.

YOU WILL LEAVE WITH:

  • A clearer understanding of the differences and overlap in federal regulations, as well as which agency controls what.
  • A map of the frameworks that actually apply: ISO 27001, NIST 800-171 Rev 2 and Rev 3, CMMC Levels 1–3, and classified overlays.
  • A posture guide by data type: export-only, CUI, CUI plus export, and commercial secrets.
  • Plain talk on OTAs that name a NIST baseline and skip CMMC, and on False Claims Act risk that did not pause.

THE PANEL:

  • Dean Korsak, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer, Griffiss Institute | CMMC Level 2 C3PAO-certified operator
  • Scott McDaniel, CEO, Simple Helix | SOC and Managed Security Operations
  • Steve Pratt, CISO / Director of Programs, CRCS, Sentar | Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization (C3PAO)
  • Mike Mutek, Senior Counsel, Womble Bond Dickinson | Protecting trade secrets, preventing False Claims Act violations, and mitigating contract risk, FAR reform
  • David Lucas, Partner, Womble Bond Dickinson | Event Sponsor & Moderator

Orientation only | Not legal advice.
